The Red Bull Steeplechase returns to Exmoor on 18 June 2017. Starting and finishing in Lynmouth, this is a knockout race over 23 miles. There are four ‘steeples’ to reach and at each of the first 3, the slowest competitors are eliminated, leaving only 20 males and 20 females to complete the final section.
Sunday 4th June 2017. The British Cycling registered sportive, organised by Bike Shed in Barnstaple, takes in some of the most fabulous scenery North Devon has to offer. There are four distances to choose from – 80, 50, 40 and 20 miles. The 80 miler features an awesome 2707m (8881 ft) of climbing. There are feed and rest stations along the routes. This promises to be a great family fun day out, as well as raising money for North Devon charities. http://www.thesmugglersportive.co.uk/

The Lyn Valley Classic returns to Lynmouth on Sunday 11th June 2017.
It is the culmination of a great weekend of activities in Lynton & Lynmouth. It all kicks off with the comedy of ‘Dr. Phil’s heath revolution’ in the Town Hall on Friday 9th, followed by the music of Led Zepplin tribute band ‘Hats Off to Led Zepplin’ on Saturday 10th (also in the Town Hall)
A Classic car show with vehicles from all ages with up to 200 entrants on display.
Events on the day will include a Ferrari tour which will park in Lynton for a couple of hours, the Miinehead Car Club who will arrive in Lynton with about 70 cars and then proceed to Lynmouth to join the main display.
There will be a bouncy castle and rides to entertain the children.
You wouldn’t believe it, listening to this, that before we moved to Devon to run Dean Steep, I used to work as a professional trombonist in the orchestra of ‘Phantom of the Opera’ in London’s West End.
This is my contribution to the ‘Acrobat Challenge’ to raise funds for a fellow trombonist suffering from a nasty form of Hodgkins Lymphoma. Donations at https://gofundme.com/StephenSykes
This was shot in the corner of one of our fields which is mown to make a small football pitch for our guests. From here you can walk up the field and down the lane into Lynton, The Valley of Rocks and Lee Bay.
We’re looking forward to having several members of the film crew of ‘Winter Ridge’ staying with us for the next 3 weeks, whilst they are filming in and around the local area.
Winter Ridge: Written by Ross Owen Williams, directed by Dom Lenoir and starring Matt Hookings, Olwen Catherine Kelly, Hannah Waddingham, Alan Ford and Michael McKell is a psychological thriller –
Tearing himself away from the bedside of his coma-bound wife, a Police Detective investigates a series of suspicious deaths, only to discover the nature of the crimes are far closer to him than he first thought.
Set in a vast and remote landscape in a fictional town, Lynton & Lynmouth and Exmoor have provided the film makers with the perfect location.
We can’t wait to see the film when it is released in June.
We are delighted that our donation of a week’s holiday for the Street Child Winter Ball charity auction went towards raising nearly £25,000. We look forward to meeting the winners when they come to stay.
Street Child is a UK based charity helping deprived and orphaned children in West Africa. They have recently helped 5,800 children, who were orphaned in the Ebola crisis, to start attending school.
Kicking off with a gig by I Floyd (Pink Floyd tribute band) in the Town Hall, followed by a lively evening in The Crown on Saturday and then the Lyn Valley Classic car show down in Lynmouth on Sunday – a good time was had by all. Lots of money raised for charity too!
